FAQs about Water Softeners & Electric Water Conditioners

This is an old page, and you will now be redirected to our new FAQ section

Q: Do they work?
A: Yes if correctly installed

Q: Will the pipes start to leak when treatment commences because of the removal of limescale?
A: Yes, in very old buildings where the pipes have become thin or pin- holed there is a likelihood of leakage after the LP is fitted.

Q: Some units on the market are very expensive, what's the difference between these and Little Plumbers?
A: Generally it seems to be more flashing lights or bigger casings or some other "gizmo" but in general terms the LP range is as good as anything else available and generally at a much more competitive price. Hype and publicity also tend to make for a more expensive unit.

Q: Some units claim to be water softeners - are they?
A: No they are not softeners although the water can take on the properties of softer water to an extent. The only true way to soften water is to remove the Calcium ions completely and this is just not possible with an electronic device.

Q: Will the LP unit "do" instead of a water softener?
A: In nearly every situation, the treatment of the water with an LP unit is quite sufficient since the results are much the same as having a proper softener. The water becomes softer to such an extent that it is quite acceptable as an alternative to a softener. It seems that many of the benefits experienced with soft water also apply to water treated with Little Plumber.

Skin problems such as Eczema and dry skin seem to improve. Detergents used in dishwashers, baths etc., seem to last longer and the results are better but the biggest incentives are PRICE. EASE OF INSTALLATION. LACK OF MAINTENANCE. SAVINGS IN FUEL COSTS AND LONGEVITY OF APPLIANCES.
